Founded in 1985 by two-time U.S. Poet Laureate Stanley Kunitz and arts administrator Elizabeth Kray, in 2017 Poets House will begin a year-long celebration of its 30th anniversary of public programming. From our modest beginnings and growth to serving millions each year, Poets House continues to bring world-renowned poets to new audiences, welcoming poetry experts as well as those new to the art form, every day.

Our Space

Poets House - Poetry Events NYC, Poetry Readings NYC
We invite you to explore your favorite poetry or to make a new discovery in the peace and serenity of our space, with its sweeping views of the Hudson River. After many years in SoHo, Poets House moved to its new home in Battery Park City in September of 2009. Make yourself at home in this LEED Gold-certified modern space with a book by your favorite poet; use our free WiFi with your laptop to create your own work; or simply walk around and enjoy the artwork on display.
